The Ultimate Rack Testimonials

I picked the rack up in Boise right after lunch on Friday. I took it to my shop and started to assemble. I've farmed all my life, and I have put a lot of things together over the years. The way you have designed this rack, you could have absolutely no mechanical skills and it would still be a breeze. It took all of 20 minutes to assemble and fasten to the pickup. Loading the atv's couldn't have been easier, what a snap. I was a little concerned about having two 700 hundred pound 4 wheelers, plus pulling a 26 foot travel trailer. I have a 2002 crew-cab chevy short box with a Duramax engine. With the short box, I never felt any swaying what so ever. I had built a set of side-loading ramps, but was awfully concerned about having them attached to the side rails, rather than setting on the bed of the pickup. I also know that atvs are designed to have the air flow go from front to back, not from side to side. I think that your product is a perfect design. The only thing that I could think of doing differently might be to make the headache rack a little heavier and put some tie-down rings on it. It's awful tight quarters trying to get the bikes tied down between the headache rack down to the hooks in the bed.

I also want to commend you with the way that you followed up after I placed my order. You don't see much of that anymore. I think that you have truly made the "Ultimate Rack" for hauling atv's. Keep up the good work.

Sincerely, Brett Paynter

....In my opinion, there are no other ATV Rack systems on the market that is as safe, easy to use and as well built with quality workmanship as this system. I have owned mine since 1998. I have traveled many miles with the atv's on the rack and many trips up and down the ramps. I have never had any mishaps. The thing I like most is loading from the rear without the fear of going over the side as with some of those other racks.

And storage.....Plenty of room under the rack for all my gear... This is the only ATV Rack system that I would recommend. I have several friends that now own their own racks...

In May of 1999 I was looking for the safest rack system made. I needed to haul 2 quads and pull a camp trailer. I did some research quickly dismissed all the "Side loaders" as being too much of a safety issue to load. I would not want to drive off the other side. I had seen a couple of these racks and liked the idea of loading from the back. I purchased one from a local dealer. Over 3 years later I still have no complaints about the Rack system. It is easy to install in my truck it is very well made. I haul a Bombardier DS650 on the rack along with a Kawasaki Lakota and these are 2 fairly heavy ATVs. I haul my gear, tires, coolers, generator and about anything else I need to camp. With the ATVs facing forward I do not worry about the plastic breaking. In my opinion it is the best ATV Rack on the market.

I wouldn't buy anything less.

FAQs

What are the racks made of?

The racks are fabricated out of 2-inch tubular steel. The stationary joints are welded. Joints requiring assembly are connected with 1/2-inch, grade-5 bolts and ny-lock nuts. The tire pans are 1/8-inch diamond-plated aluminum. Ramps are constructed of 1x3-inch tubular steel, with rungs of 1x1x1/8-inch angle iron.

How much does an Ultimate Rack weigh?

A fully assembled, short bed rack, without ramps, weighs 256 lbs. The long bed model weighs 268 lbs.

How long does assembly take?

It will take approximately an hour to put your rack together. All necessary hardware is provided to you. The rack is assembled using ten 1/2-inch diameter grade-5 nuts and bolts, and four 1/4-inch diameter grade-5 nuts and bolts.

Are any modifications to my truck required?

Not Necessarily. But in order to secure your new Ultimate Rack into the bed of your truck, you will need to attach four D-ring and swivel-bracketed plates in the corners of the inside of the truck bed. They are provided in your hardware package and we highly recommend their use. Not all trucks provide the appropriate tie downs for safe and proper installation of the  Rack. This step takes approximately 30 minutes, and is a one-time procedure. Complete instructions are shipped with the rack.

How do I install my rack into my pickup truck?

With the assembled rack standing on end, pick it up by the rear end and, using the tailgate as a fulcrum, slide the rack into the truck bed. (This can easily be done by one person.) Using the four turnbuckles provided, secure the Rack to the truck bed.

Can one person install or uninstall an Ultimate Rack alone?Highlight Cursor Here To See Movie, (2.5mb)

Yes. The rack is easily installed by one person. However, it is a good idea to have someone with you in case you need assistance.

Can I install an Ultimate Rack if my truck has a plastic bed liner?

Yes. However, minor modifications are needed in order to expose the D-ring and swivel brackets. This can be accomplished by using a 2-inch hole saw or a small handsaw.

What is the angle of the ramps when attached to the rack?

The degree of angle varies with the height of your truck bed. If the top of your truck bed is at five feet, the angle of the extended ramps will be approximately 31 degrees.

How do I load my ATVs on the rack?

Try to minimize the ramp angle whenever possible. Position your truck so that the rear end is lower than the front. A driveway approach or similar depression works well. With the ramps pinned in place, simply drive your ATV up the ramps onto the rack. Be sure to secure it with a tie-down strap, front and back. ALWAYS wear a helmet when loading or unloading your ATV.

How do I unload my ATV?

Follow the loading procedure in reverse.

Where are the ramps stored when not in use?

The 10-ft.-long ramps, when folded, store conveniently on the rack platform under the loaded ATVs, leaving the bed of your truck open for storage.

How do I secure my loaded ATVs to the rack?

There are four 3/8-inch steel loops, two on the front and two on the rear of the rack. Use tie-down straps to secure the ATVs to these loops. We suggest using extra tie-downs on each ATV, just in case one breaks.

How does a fully-loaded rack affect the way my truck handles?

Your truck will handle as if you were carrying a small camper. The weight of the ATVs is transferred through the frame of the rack to the bed of the truck. No part of the Ultimate Rack touches or rests on the bedrails. This allows a more stable ride than you would get with a side-loading carrier, as most side-loading racks rest on and/or attach to the bedrails. The ride and handling will vary depending on the size of your truck. Handling a truck with a loaded rack on it is easier than pulling an ATV trailer; especially on an uphill or downhill grade.

Can I carry just one ATV?

Yes! You won’t even know it’s there!

What size ATVs can the rack carry?

The rack, from left to right is 96" wide, and carries most configurations of any two stock ATVs currently sold. However, it is not designed to carry three-wheeled ATVs.

Do you make a model to fit small or mid-size trucks?

Not yet. They are currently under design.

Can I have a "custom" rack built?

No. This rack system has been heavily researched and engineered. Any alterations could compromise the integrity of the rack.

After ordering, how soon will I receive my rack?

Please allow up to 1 week for delivery. We will send an e-mail confirmation to you on the date your rack is shipped. You will then be able to track it by the shipper’s PRO number.

What about shipping?

Your rack will be shipped by a common carrier and will arrive in two cardboard containers. The containesr will need to be picked up by you at the freight terminal nearest
you in your geographic area. The total weight of the container is approximately 360 pounds. The shipping cost will be between $150 and $300. If you would like your rack delivered to your home or office, there will be an additional cost of $85.00 for residential delivery.

What are the benefits of owning an Ultimate Rack?

The racks are constructed of high quality materials, providing maximum strength and durability. All open ends on the steel tubing have been capped, welded, and ground smooth. This feature insures that no moisture can get inside the steel tubing, so the integrity of the rack will not be compromised.

The entire rack has been powder-coated to hold up under the harshest of weather conditions and tolerates heat and moisture much better than paint. Powder-coating gives much longer wear, is chip-resistant, and looks great!

Our tire pans are a beautiful blend of functionality and appearance. The 1/8-inch diamond-plate aluminum is rust-proof, easy to clean and very durable. All edges have been de-burred for a smooth finish and a superb look.

The rack ramps are each ten feet long and constructed of 1x3- inch tubing and 1x1x1/8-inch angle iron. They can easily bear the weight of even the largest of ATVs. After use, the ramps are folded and stored conveniently under the loaded ATVs, leaving the truck bed space available for gear storage.

The Rack is designed to complement your full-size truck! Whether you drive a short- or long bed pickup, the Rack fits! If you have a long bed with a standard size toolbox, the short bed model works, so you can have your tools and your ATVs with you at the same time.

The Rack rests on the floor of the truck bed, not on the bedrails, providing more stability and evenly-distributed weight. This feature prevents damage to your bedrails.

Your ATVs face forward when loaded on the Rack. This cuts down on wind resistance and prevents fender damage caused by wind. By having your ATVs facing forward, gas mileage is improved. When loading ATVs from the rear of the truck instead of the side, there is no chance of accidentally driving off the other side. The headache rack helps protect the cab and rear window.
